Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 17-year-old youth was hit in the back by a stray bullet apparently fired by a reveller at the Pet Dam on Saturday night.

According to reports, the youth, who is a learner at a local high school, was walking past the dam while some men were arguing. Shots were fired and the youth was struck while running to safety.

X-rays taken the next day revealed that the bullet had lodged in his back. A decision to remove the bullet will be taken at a later stage.

Meanwhile, complaints have been received of impromptu partying at the dam that involves drinking in public, loud music and revelling until the early hours of the morning.

On Sunday morning the terrain at the dam was littered with hundreds of empty bottles, fast food containers and other rubbish.
