Women share their experience

Women enjoy breakfast in Secunda.

SECUNDA – Sasol Mining officially launched a career development programme for women at Graceland Casino on Tuesday, 26 August.

This launch was celebrated with a breakfast and was part of Sasol’s Women’s Month celebrations.

Some of the women mine workers shared their experiences in the mining industry.

The Women in Mining Development Programme is aimed at attracting, growing and retaining women in Sasol Mining’s core operations.

A total of 23 Sasol Mining women employees will take part in the programme, beginning in September.

They will be developed in the fields of general workers, operators, artisans and miners which form part of the development pipeline that goes up to mine manager level and beyond.

A criterion for selection was partly based on tenure such as women who have been with Sasol for a long time while their performance levels and conduct as part of a high performance culture was taken into account together with their personal development plans and chosen career paths.

The programme will track their career going forward while they receive training at the Sasol Mining training centre to equip them with new skills leading to accreditation certificates and licences to operate a variety of sophisticated machines on the mines.

Those already on higher levels will receive advanced training as learner artisans or learner miners, depending on their current career levels.
