Sasol and municipality repair roads

Sasol and Govan Mbeki Municipality take hands.

SECUNDA  – One of the projects currently underway is the critical road maintenance initiative which was identified by Sasol in collaboration with the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

According to Sasol’s spokesman, Ms Marcia Binder, the 2014 programme for this project is divided in two phases namely maintenance work and rebuild work.

Sasol got local companies to execute and supervise the repairs.

“The intent is for projects funding to have a local economic impact and promotion of job security for the people of Govan Mbeki Municipality,” said Ms Binder.

The first priority of the road maintenance project is to rebuild areas in Secunda where the imminent rainy season would have seriously impacted on the roadways.

Surface and base patch repairs are currently being conducted on Oliver Tambo Road between the intersections of Trichardt and Buurmann Road and on Walter Sisulu Street between the intersections of Helen Joseph Street and Oliver Tambo Drive.

Every project that is done through the initiative ultimately supports talent security, ensuring that Sasol is doing its part to help develop the workforce and leaders of the future.

One of the key objectives of the initiative is to identify special infrastructure development and maintenance needs in the communities in which Sasol operates.

As a result, projects executed are geared towards accelerating job creation, enhancing human capital development and improvement of the health and wellness of the communities in which Sasol operates.

Ms Mashudu Ndou Senior Manager: Sasol Corporate Social Responsibility and Ikusasa said: “This project is one of many which Sasol through Ikusasa will contribute to local economic development and job creation by retaining local talent.”
