Stats SA researches living conditions

Statistics South Africa will be conducting a living condition survey from October.

HIGHVELD – Statistics South Africa will be conducting the Living Conditions Survey from October.

It will collect information on the living conditions of South African households with the aim of providing data to better understand poverty in the country and monitor how it changes over time.

Mr MsindoSkhosana, publicity officer, said the survey will only be done in sampled households.

“Residents will be required to answer questions posed to them by the survey officer and be required to keep a record of purchases in a weekly diary for two weeks.

“We will ensure that any information provided by households remain confidential according to Section 17.

“Any staff member found guilty of divulging confidential information to unauthorised people, will face stiff legal penalties.

“The survey officer will visit the house to explain the survey in more detail and set up four appointments based on the availability of the participant in order to ask questions relating to the survey questionnaire.”

The officer will be identified through the Stats SA ID card.
