Chief Shabangu – women are not respected anymore

Mr Ephraim Shabangu (Chief of the Naka Takho Swazi Royal Tribe) has formed a committee that will focus on moral regeneration and education about the importance of paying for municipal services.

eMBALENHLE – Mr Ephraim Shabangu, chief of the Naka Takho Swazi Royal Tribe, calls on residents to restore African morals, customs and respect for women and children.

He said the news on television, the radio and newspapers about constant rape and abuse of women and children is unacceptable and non-African.

“In our culture women and children were respected and men protected them, but nowadays things have changed.

“Women are victimised by those who are supposed to protect them.

“The problem is that our people are too western these days and they are neglecting their customs, but us as the Swazi tribe are standing up to try to fix this mess,” said Chief Shabangu.

He has established a committee that will engage with the community to teach them about moral regeneration and traditional customs.

This committee will also conduct campaigns to encourage residents to pay for services rendered by the municipality and to also promote and protect traditional authority courts.

“We resolve any conflict that may occur in a family or community at these courts.

“We also educate the youth about their culture and help them build character and we teach men on how to deal with issues of Isithembu (polygamy) and we discourage extra marital affairs.

“Another issue we want to deal with is the xenophobic attacks and abuse of our brothers from Africa.

“As Africans we should love and protect one another.”
