Radioactive Dragonflies enters Relay for Life event

Businesses support cupcake project in Secunda.

SECUNDA – The Radioactive Dragonflies was the first team to register for Cansa’s annual Relay for Life event that takes place on 25 October.

The team began their fundraising by hosting the Cansa Cupcake Friday on 8 August.

Altogether 100 volunteers were asked to make 50 cupcakes or more, making 5 000 cupcakes.

The orders poured in from individuals, groups and businesses.

Kwikcheck helped and baked more than 6 500 cupcakes.

According to Ms Theresa Gray from the Radioactive Dragonflies team, friends and family came to the rescue and iced all the cupcakes over two days at the Secunda Reformed Church.

The Radioactive Dragonflies thanked their volunteers, helpers, the Secunda Reformed Church and everyone who supported them.

“A special thank you to the Fireplace who ordered a thousand cupcakes,” said Ms Gray.

“The winning pre-school was Japsnoet and the winning school was Highveld Park High School.”

These two schools ordered the most cupcakes.

The Radioactive Dragonflies hoped to raise R25 000 with the cupcake project, but managed to raise R52 000.

“Our God reigns,” said Ms Gray.

Businesses, families, friends and work colleagues can still enter teams for the Relay for Life event.

This event takes place through the night over 12 hours and cancer patients are the most important people at this annual event.

Ms Jacqueline Erasmus encouraged cancer patients to contact her if they want to be part of this year’s Relay for Life.
