Five vehicles were involved in a bumper-bash on the Volksrust road at 4pm on Saturday.

No-one was seriously injured.

The road is currently under construction and the collision took place at the first stop and go.

Traffic was highly congested, but cleared up after the vehicles were removed from the accident scene.

A five car pile up occurred at the first stop-and-go on the Volksrust Road outside Standerton on 3 August about 4pm.

No major injuries were sustained, but traffic was held up in both directions while the cars were removed.

According to bystanders the last car failed to stop, which caused a domino-affect when it crashed into the car in front of it.

The last two cars sustained major damage while the last three were lightly scratched.

Occupants of the five vehicles were in a heated debate about who was to blame and if not for the police, it could have come to blows.

Because of current road works done on the Volksrust Road, a towing company battled to remove the damaged vehicles because of the narrow piece of road they had to work with.

Motorists in both directions waited in patience for the obstruction to be cleared and some even helped move the vehicles off the road after police had taken statements.

After a lengthy wait, traffic began to flow freely again, even though there was a backlog of vehicles in both directions of up to one kilometre.
