Boy (14) threatend with knife

Alex told him he did not have anything on him, apart from his phone.

A man threatened a Grade 9 pupil from Hoƫrskool Standerton with a knife on 8 July.

Alex Leeds (14) was on his way to retrieve his dog, that had escaped into the street, at about 1pm.

As he picked up his dog on the corner of Joubert and Coligny Streets, he was approached by the attacker, apparently in his 20s, wearing a brown jacket with a blue hood.

The assailant intimidated him with a knife, took his cell phone from his pocket and demanded money.

Alex told him he did not have anything on him, apart from his phone.

The thief then told him to walk slowly in the opposite direction, which he was going, and not to make a fuss.

Alex did so and the man disappeared around the corner.

The shocked youngster then approached a neighbour for help. A statement was made at the Standerton Police, but the Leeds family as yet has had no news.

A neighbour of the Leeds’ was robbed of his pension money two days later, apparently by the same man, since he was spotted a couple of days later in the same street.

No harm came to Alex or his dog, but according to his mother, Ms Susan Leeds, he struggled to fall asleep for the next few nights.

Ms Leeds also said the street lights in Coligny Street have not been working for months.
