Secunda fenced in

New fencing is part of Sasol’s project.

SECUNDA – As part of Sasol’s Ikusasa Project, Secunda recently got fencing around the town, especially at the green strips, and the main roads were repaired.

According to residents the fencing helps in keeping quad bikes out of the green strips.

The aim of this project is to uplift the community’s infrastructure and to improve safety and security.

According to a press release issued last year by Mr Alex Anderson, Sasol’s Group Media Manager, the Ikusasa programme is a public-private sustainable development initiative which sees Sasol investing more than R800 million in Secunda, Mpumalanga and Sasolburg.

Since the Ikusasa project began in 2012, Sasol has already invested in safety and security by giving the police and the sector policing equipment and a support vehicle.

Sasol also invested in the Govan Mbeki School Security Project and allocated R4.7 million for palisade fencing, security locks and gates at various schools in Secunda.

Sasol will also be helping the municipality in addressing the challenges of providing adequate waste water reticulation and treatment facilities in eMbalenhle.

“The community will greatly benefit from improvements in the piping, pumping and treatment infrastructure.

“These projects are executed in support of Govan Mbeki Municipality, with the key intent of ensuring quality of life for our communities,” said Mr Anderson.

Sasol is in the process of building a new private school, Curro Private School, that will open next year.

The sod turning event for this school was held recently.

Sasol was also responsible for a clean up project in eMbalenhle to improve general hygiene conditions.

Sasol also upgrade the library and the green strips as part of the programme.
