GSDM joins forces at Indaba

During the event, MEC for Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (DEDET) Pinky Phosa launched the MTPA’s Mpumalanga Tourism app.

Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) joined forces with the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) at this year’s tourism Indaba recently held in Durban.
The purpose of the joint venture was to strengthen relations between the two institutions and to showcase the beauty and everything that Mpumalanga has to offer in terms of tourism.
During the event, MEC for Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (DEDET) Pinky Phosa launched the MTPA’s Mpumalanga Tourism app.
The app allows tourists visiting the province to find tourists destinations available in the three district municipalities- Gert Sibande, Ehlanzeni and Nkangala- easily.
Cell phone and iPad users can easily search for restaurants, guesthouses and hotels in the province. Ms Phosa said it was high time Mpumalanga vigorously promoted its tourism and she cited places like God’s Window and its impact on overseas tourists visiting Mpumalanga.
Cllr Fikile Nyembe, member of the GSDM’s Mayoral Committee and a regular at the Tourism Indaba, said this year’s event was bigger and had innovations such as the Mpumalanga Tourism app.
African Union Chairman, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, hosted the Indaba 2014 ministerial round table where she stressed the need to accelerate joint marketing strategies to achieve growth in Africa as a preferred tourism destination.
Indaba is one of the largest tourism marketing events showcasing the widest variety of South Africa’s best tourism products and attracts visitors and media houses from across the world.
