Grade 8 and 9 learners of Netherland Park Secondary School (NPSS) came first in the Gert Sibande district competition in which their knowledge of their Economic Management Science (EMS) was tested.
Second place went to Volksrust High School and Ndlela Secondary School from Piet Retief took third place.
The quiz was held at Ligbron Academy for Technology on Tuesday.
The NPSS win came after they had taken first place earlier in the Ermelo sub-district competition where Volksrust came second, Ermelo Combined School third, while New Ermelo Combined and Ndlela Secondary School shared the fourth position.
These five schools represented the Ermelo sub-district at Ligbron on Tuesday.
The three district winners will compete in Witbank against three other districts on Friday (today) to determine the provincial winner.
This annual competition is organised by the Department of Education, in collaboration with the South African Foundation for Economic and Financial Education (SAFEFE) in order to promote economic education in South Africa.
