The Standerton Advertiser reported about residents from Rooikoppen who have to endure sewage flowing into their houses.

A pump station in Rooikoppen, Extension 4, is not working and sewage flows down every street and accumulates in a field from where it flows into the Vaal River.

A reservoir inside the pump station, equipped with a level switch that turns on the pump to redirect sewage to the sewage plant, is not operational.

Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, municipal spokesman, said the mentioned pump station is inoperative and another pump station in the industrial area is used.

When asked whether that pump station was functioning properly, he said that it is being upgraded.

Mr Mkwanazi was informed about the distressed people of Rooikoppen and contacted municipal workers to investigate the matter.

Residents, have however reported back and said no employees showed up to address their living conditions or to fix the sewage problem.

Mr Mkwanazi, was asked about the current state of affairs, but could not comment at the time of going to press.
