Hospital welcomes Dr Snowdowne

New specialist surgeon begins at Mediclinic Highveld.

TRICHARDT – Dr Christopher Snowdowne began working as a specialist surgeon at Mediclinic Highveld a month ago and said he enjoys Secunda.

He grew up in Polokwane and moved to Bloemfontein after school where he studied to become a doctor and then worked as a general practitioner in Bloemfontein for 10 years.

He later decided to specialise and continued his career in Bloemfontein.

Dr Snowdowne’s current receptionist, Ms Jackie le Roux, was his receptionist in Bloemfontein and now also lives in Secunda and continues working for him.

Dr Snowdowne is married to Ms Marlene Snowdowne and the couple has a 15-year-old daughter.

“There was a big need for a surgeon in Secunda and that is why I decided to move here,” said Dr Snowdowne.

The community made him feel welcome and at home right away.

“The hospital had been waiting for a surgeon for quite some time and people thought they were making an April Fool’s Day joke when they send an SMS out to inform people of a new surgeon, but it was no joke, here I am,” he said.

Dr Snowdowne will also help patients after hours and his goal is to give the patients the best care and treatment possible.

“I want to cater for the needs of my patients,” he said.

People do not need to drive all the way to Gauteng now to see a surgeon, Secunda has one on its doorstep.

“I think Secunda is one of our country’s hidden gems, I enjoy living here,” he said.
