EFF demands answers from Sasol

Mpumalanga members hand over a memorandum to management of Sasol.

SECUNDA – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) local members and supporters handed over a memorandum of demands to the management of Sasol on Thursday, 24 April.

They carried placards bearing the face of the party leader, Mr Julius Malema, and Mpumalanga Premier candidate, Mr Collen Sedibe, during a march from eMbalenhle to Sasol Charlie 3 gate.

The members are demanding the company address issues of racism, employment, racial wage gaps, social responsibility, safety and the use of service providers such as Hydra Arc that apparently employ Asians, and Megabus’ transport monopoly and its lack of giving back to the community.

They are also worried about Sasol’s influence in the cases that are heard at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration and the National Bargaining Council for the Chemical Industry.

EFF is also against Sasol’s business performance enhancement programme under the banner Project Phoenix that is facilitated by Bain & Company and could result in many job losses.

They demand the management respond to them within seven working day.

Mr Vusi Cwane, Sasol’s Group Corporate Marketing General Manager, and Ms Maureen Mboshane, General Manager of Public Affairs, received the memorandum that was read by Mr Sedibe.

The members dispersed peacefully after the march.

Mr Cwane said Sasol will respond to the memorandum accordingly and on time.
