17-year-old boy found dead in Vaal River

The family said Sizwe was last seen on Saturday going to the Music Festival at the River Park. A fisherman called the police on Thursday after he noticed a body floating in the river.

Mr Sizwe Masuku’s (21) body was found floating in the Vaal River last Friday afternoon.

His brother reported him missing at the Standerton Police Station last Monday.

The family said Sizwe was last seen going to the Music Festival at the River Park on 29 March.

A fisherman called the police the Thursday after he noticed a body floating in the river.

He said he was not sure if it was a man’s body.

“Upon close inspection, we noticed that it was a body of a man,” a fisherman said.

After the police arrived on the scene, they began searching for the body, but stopped the search due to poor light.

They continued the search last Friday morning and the body was found not far from where it was spotted.

According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of Standerton Police, the description given by the family matches that of the body.

The police have opened an inquest to determine whether the man was killed or he drowned.
