Residents fear bend in road

A petition calling for the bend to be made safer was handed in at the Msukaligwa Traffic Department more than a year ago

“What we have feared for some time now has finally happened. Luckily no-one was hurt, but it could be only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or even killed in their front yard.”

This was the sentiment of residents living near the dangerous bend at the eastern end of Camden Avenue on Friday evening after a car ploughed through a pre-cast wall of a residence when the driver lost control of his vehicle.

Numerous accidents have taken place at this bend and residents have made several requests to the authorities to act.

A petition calling for the bend to be made safer was handed in at the Msukaligwa Traffic Department more than a year ago.

“Speed restricting bumps should be placed on both sides of the bend and a stop sign should be erected at the intersection with Mel Mentz Street for vehicles travelling in a westerly direction. In most of the previous incidents the vehicles collided with one or two of the trees on the sidewalk and in this way were prevented from landing up in somebody’s front yard. It’s just luck that in this case there were no children playing in the yard,” said a resident.
