Laerskool Kinross show their plastic dress

The whole class participated in making the dress.

KINROSS – Grade 7 pupils from Laerskool Kinross took part of the Techno X Science Expo which was held in Secunda Sasol Club recently.

They decided to enter the fashion show because they felt they will excel at it.

Yoyo Salaze and Mbongeni Mkhwanazi worked on the design of the dress.

Their first design included using tins to make the dress and after discussing it with their teacher, they realised that it is going to be too heavy.

They then decided to change it and use shopping plastic bags, milk cartons and milk plastic bottles.

The smallest girl in class, Ashmika Bhola, was chosen to wear the dress.

Anel Pretorius who is also a grade 7 pupil, taught them to knit the dress and the whole class participated in making the dress and the hand bag which was also made with plastic.

“The next challenge was for Ashmika to enter the competition and she won,” said Mbongeni Mkhwanazi.

The school won R500.
