Second pipe bursts in Secunda in three days

Govan Mbeki Municipality was contacted for comment regarding the delay in repairing the pipe and promised to investigate.

    A water pipe burst in Echo Street, Secunda.

A second water pipe burst in Secunda, causing residents to fear they will be without water for a third day.

According to Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, Ward 5 councillor, this pipe burst in Echo Street last night.

Govan Mbeki Municipality was contacted about the problem, but a maintenance team has not yet arrived.

 

UPDATE

SECUNDA – According to Mr Bheki Kubheka, municipal spokesperson the virgin soil at Generaal Kemp Street was sedimented by water pressure which was generated last night when the network was pressurised after repairs to the burst pipe which resulted in a minor leakage at the elbow joint of the repairs. Therefore the same portion of Secunda will once again experience intermittent water supply for a short period today, as the municipality are busy replacing the old elbow. Once the repairs at Generaal Kemp are completed, the team will move on to the Echo Street burst pipe.

The repair team has now moved to Echo Street and are busy repairing the second burst pipe.
