How to claim for damage to vehicles caused by potholes

Is there one annoying pothole that you have to drive through/pass daily?

The Ridge Times asked this question to our readers on our Facebook page last week and the response was overwhelming with a total of 60 comments.

Nevertheless, it is obvious that there are too many potholes to mention.

A couple of people are annoyed with the pothole or “donga” as they call it, just after the bridge between Trichardt and Secunda. One of our readers commented that her son lost two tyres and rims as a result of this pothole.

Readers who spoke of Bethal, complained that there are too many potholes to mention and that the town is a battlefield of potholes.

Evander and eMbalenhle were not left out and it is a fact that all the roads in the Govan Mbeki Municipality could do with upgrades and repairs.

Ena Van Rooyen, DA councillor, informed readers on the Secunda Utility Services Forum Facebook page how they can claim for damage to vehicles on open road trenches and potholes.

“You can take your quotation on repairs to the Govan Mbeki Assets Department for a reclaim from them at rooms 112 and 114. You can speak to Agnes Mahlangu.

“Fill in the form and hand it in with the quotation. Make copies of it and keep it for future references and ask Agnes to sign as proof of handing in with the date.

“If you are not happy with the procedures make an appointment with the MMC, Mr David Maponya, at room 323 and follow up with him.”
