Elderly centre, a target for burglary

Thieves broke into the centre in the third week of January and stole groceries.

KINROSS – Burglars are targeting the Golden Oldies Elderly Centre.

The centre caters for senior citizens of Kinross where they meet daily and take part in various activities aimed at keeping them healthy.

Thieves broke into the centre in the third week of January and stole groceries.

They only left an open bag of samp and 5l cooking oil.

The burglars returned the next night to steal the samp and the cooking oil.

Ms Ethel Makhele, chairman of the centre, said they do not know what to do anymore.

They tried last year to raise money to erect palisade fencing and install burglar proofing in front of the windows and doors, but could not raise enough money.

They urged the community and businesses to help them.

Kinross Police confirmed that cases of burglary were opened.
