SC Zondo Transport hosts the Nokuthula Simelane School Sports TournamentAawards.

eMZINONI – SC ZO Transport has named their school games tournament after the struggle heroine Nokuthula Simelane, who disappeared without a trace during the apartheid era, in honour of her legacy.

The tournament was launched on 10 September on the same day that she had disappeared.

However the games began on 7 September and ended on 30 September.

The company held an award ceremony for the winning teams and best performers on 30 September.

Mr Sibisiso Zondo, owner of SC Zondo Transport, said his company believes in education and that is why it came with this tournament.

“We have both the primary and secondary schools participating and the winning teams will get soccer or netball kits.

“This is our way of keeping the spirit of Nokuthula Simelane alive among the young generation, most of all our pupils.

“We need to educate them about our struggle heroes and heroines who fought hard for the democracy we get to enjoy today.”

The tournament was for U/12 and U/17 pupils.

Sibande Qobolwakhe from A. D. Nkosi School and Samkelo Mahlobo were awarded best soccer players of the tournament.

Londiwe Masilela from Bethal Primary and Nqobile Dlamini from iKhethelo Secondary School were honoured as best netball players.

iKhethelo Secondary School won the both soccer and netball team in the secondary school category.

iMbekezelo Primary School won the primary school soccer and Bethal Primary School the netball.

Mr Zondo said his company wants to take the games throughout the Govan Mbeki Municipal region so that all pupils can participate and promote sport and the learning culture.
