Lesotho man killed during crossfire with police in Evander

A 32-year-old Lesotho man was killed during crossfire with police in Evander earlier today. One of the suspects were caught whilst the other escaped.

EVANDER – Police shot and killed a Lesotho national aged 32-years during a crossfire on Friday, 20 May at around 10am. Captain Magonseni Nkosi said the police received a phone call from residents who told them that there are people who are randomly firing the shots at eNkomeni settkements, near Evander. Police found three men who then fled the scene. It is said that during their encounter, the 32-year-old suspect fired shots at the police. Capt Nkosi said the police narrowly escaped death as several shots were targeted at them. The police vehicle also endured damages. During the shooting, the police were forced to retaliate and shot the man who died on scene. Police recoverd one firearm from the deceased. The remaining two suspects were chased and the police caught one of them who was found with a holster and two live ammunitions while the other suspect escaped. The deceased was found with a Lesotho passport on him. Police are still investigating to see if there are previous cases linking the suspects. The motive for the men to shoot randomly is still unknown.
