Gabisile reclaims glory

Gabisile Tshabalala won the hearts of many fans on Friday, 28 August

SECUNDA – Gabisile (Simply the Best) Tshabalala, SA champion, captured the title of Junior Feather Weight Champion on Friday, 28 August at the Graceland Casino.

Tshabalala outboxed Unathi Mnyekeni, former World Boxing Federation (WBF) champion, over 10 rounds with a majority decision.

She thanked her trainer Ellias Mpembe, WBF and the promoter, for the opportunity given to her.

“I thank my family and supporters for always believing in me.

“It was not an easy fight, but I pulled through and won.”

In the main supporting Bout for WBF international and SA, Feather Mzonke Fana retained his WBF international title by beating Said Zungu from Tanzania with an unanimous decision.

Asandiswa Nxokwana boxed against Raider Muleba and won the WBF international title.

Nonxolo Makhanavu retained her SA title with a technical knockout in round four, beating Bongwe Seyisi.

Mr Fikile Mbalula, Minister of Sport and Recreation South Africa, congratulated all the boxers.

He said women across all sports codes need to be given equal attention as they can no longer be on the sideline.

“We close this month on a high note by celebrating women in boxing.

“Ours is to promote all sporting codes and ensure that women are given space to fully participate on equal footing with their male counterparts.

“The boxing we just witnessed proved that SA women can do it and are equally competent.

“They are not fake and made of plastic.”
