Faeces a sign of residents’ frustration

Mr Sondag Mabena, Ward 20 councillor, blames the technical servives department for the poor service delivery in the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

eMBALENHLE – Mr Sondag Mabena, Ward 20 councillor, has slammed the technical services department of the municipality and said they are the core reason for the poor service delivery in the area.

Mr Mabena said the officials are lazy and only target over times.

He said residents blame councillors, but they report the problems, especially sewer problems, daily to the officials.

This came after angry residents from mainly Ward 20 dumped faeces at the municipal doors on Monday, 20 July.

The municipal offices were closed and non-operational for hours.

“The offices are now closed and people who were supposed to do their job, are affected because of the technical department officials who are not properly doing their job.

“People are tired of the sewer spillages and overflowing drains.

“Many households are living with sewerage flowing into their homes and residents did not vote for this.

“We must provide good service delivery to the people who voted for us.”

Mr Mabena further said that the tendency of officials only wanting overtime, has resulted in the department of technical service exceeding its budget by R16 million.

“Now we are losing more money because the offices are closed.

“In the end we all suffer, while others are enjoying fancy holidays.”

Council did not comment at time of going to press on Monday.
