Municipality ignores overflowing pipe for three months

Community suffers water damage due to a burst pipe in Carolus Street, Trichardt.

TRICHARDT – Afrox has suffered severe property damage due to a water pipe that had burst in February.

The pipe has been overflowing for more than three months and the roads were badly damaged.

This incident was reported twice to the municipal supervisor and senior water engineering technician, Mr. Roshiwa Malautzi.

Afrox’s manager said: “We are very disappointed in the municipal department who we asked to check and repair this water leak and we are still suffering property damage caused by this burst pipe.”

Ms Grace Mncube, owner of the Zamhkuhne food caravan, said:” After three months of overflowing water, the municipality arrived on 26 May to check out the problem.”

The municipality repaired the pipe on 27 May, but the next day the pipe was leaking again and nothing has been done to stop the water from being wasted and is running down Carolus Street.

There has been no comment from the municipality.
