Red Star Runners Athletics Club hosts athletes from all over the country

Under the banner of Athletics Mpumalanga, the race was hosted by the Red Star Runners Athletics Club.

The second official Red Star Marathon at the Red Star Raceway outside Delmas on September 28 brought a variety of runners and clubs together.

Under the banner of Athletics Mpumalanga, the race was hosted by the Red Star Runners Athletics Club.

The unique track is famous for its challenges with a 12m elevation included 42.2km, 21.1km, 10km, the official 5km as well as the official one-mile dash.

The overall winner of the 42.2km race was Thomas Ndlovu from Masai AC who completed the distance in 2:31:42.

The first woman to cross the finish line in the 42,2km race was Tristan Torr (Nedbank Running Club CG) in 3:22:22.

The winners of the 21,2km race was Kabelo Melamu (1:08:04) from Boxer Superstores AC and Kaitlin Bubb (1:31:12) from Benoni Northerns.

Fernando Macavele (32:00) from Masai AC and Gift Nkosi (39:00) from Central Gauteng were the overall men’s and women’s winners in the 10km race.

In the official 1-mile dash Thabo Masina (04:46) was the men’s winner and Boitulelo Morudu (06:54) winner among the women.

Not only did the event attract runners from all over the country, but it also offered a day of festivity for runners and families with vendors, swimming, braaing, a wide variety of food to choose from as well as live entertainment by local musician, Pieter Smit.

For the adventurous, there was also the opportunity to experience the thrill of drifting or taking a hot lap with an experienced driver.
