Sakhile learns about green initiatives

Jackie Jackson, the founder of YNM, explained the purpose of this organisation is to teach the community to be more sustainable.

Young Nature Minders in Tourism (YNM) hosted a seminar on September 5 at the Sakhile Youth Centre, where several residents were in attendance.

Jackie Jackson, the founder of YNM, explained the purpose of this organisation is to teach the community to be more sustainable.

“We want to encourage people to keep their homes clean and green and plant more trees,” added Jackson.

According to her, the organisation believes strongly in green initiatives such as planting trees, because trees not only contribute hugely to our health but also protect houses in informal residential areas during windy seasons.

The organisation encourages each family to keep a small garden in their yards, for fresh produce to be readily available in these communities.

According to Jackson, it is extremely important to keep the community alert on how they treat the environment.

The organisation deals with important topics, such as environmental and agricultural issues. Lucky Maseko of Cofco International was a special speaker at this event.

“Before we can talk about giving you work, let’s work on giving you knowledge,” said Maseko.

His speech aimed to equip those present with the knowledge they would need to sustain green initiatives.
