Security companies, Standerton SAPS join forces to arrest copper thieves

They worked together to arrest six alleged copper and chrome thieves who stole these resources in the Bethal area on August 28.

The office of the provincial commissioner in Mpumalanga sent out a media statement commending the Standerton SAPS, private security companies such as Fidelity Security and Kasselman Security Services, and AfriForum Standerton.

They worked together to arrest six alleged copper and chrome thieves who stole these resources in the Bethal area on August 28.

According to the statement, security personnel caught the suspects in the act. The suspects fled towards Standerton in a white Toyota Avanza with no number plates.

While the security personnel followed the vehicle, contact was made with security companies in Standerton.

The role players found the vehicle and arrested the six suspects. Some stolen items were recovered during a vehicle search.

According to the statement, an investigation will launch to find any other stolen items the suspects might have hidden and to determine the status of the vehicle used in the theft.

The acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, General Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the partnership and teamwork of these various law enforcement agencies.

“Working together always produces positive results. Make no mistake, our partnership with other law enforcement agencies is working in our favour to reduce crime levels. This arrest should indicate to criminals that we will not tolerate these types of activities in our province,” said Mkhwanazi.
