eMbalenhle family seeks justice for son’s murder

They want answers following the murder of 20-year-old Siyabonga Mthombeni last December.

The Mthombeni family in Ext 18, eMbalenhle, wants to know why the suspect in their son’s murder was not arrested.

The family is seeking justice and answers following the murder of 20-year-old Siyabonga Mthombeni.

His father, Doctor Mthombeni, heartbrokenly recounted the events that took place in December last year when his son was fatally stabbed in the neck.

The family still grapples with the lack of progress in the case and the suspect’s apparent freedom.

“The last time we saw my son was when we sent him to a nearby tuckshop. His friend came to tell us he was stabbed, lying on the ground.

“His friend told me that while on their way to the shop, they were approached by the suspect, who took out a knife and stabbed my son without saying anything.”

Mthombeni said his family knows the suspect.

“It is almost a year since the murder, but the suspect is still roaming around. We want justice for my son. I also want to know why he murdered my son,” said Mthombeni.

The eMbalenhle police spokesperson, Constable Busi Mthethwa, said the police understood the family’s frustration.

She said they assigned the case to another detective. Mthethwa appealed to the community to give the police time.

“We investigate to arrest, not the other way around of arrest to investigate.”

Anyone with information on this case may contact Detective Warrant Officer Melusi Mthombeni on 071 292 9405.
