Cullinan Taekwondo students excel at nationals

Collett further said participants who received first places in the nationals are crowned national champions. ATC is extremely proud to have three champions for 2024.

Four students from the Acestes Taekwondo Academy in Cullinan (ATC), together with their instructor, boosabum (Bsb) Justin Collett, attended the Martial Arts South Africa (MASA) national championship in Potchefstroom on August 10 and 11.

According to Collett, all forms of Korean Martial Arts attended this championship with participants from all over the country and abroad. Cullinan students fared well during the tournament and brought home well-deserved medals.

In the category of traditional Korean forms, Chantené Bouwer, achieved second place, Wilmarié Fourie and Collett each a third place and Don Stewart a seventh place. In the traditional Korean weapon forms category, Chantené received first place and Wilmarié second.

In traditional Korean weapon sparring, Collett and Chantené came in first and Wilmarié in second.

In the traditional point-sparing competition, Melissa Coetser and Chantené received first place and Wilmarié second place. Melissa also managed second place in traditional light contact sparring.

“This tournament is an extremely challenging competition because this is where provincial winners participate to get their nationals,” Collet added.

Collett said participants who received first place in the nationals are national champions and ATC is therefore extremely proud to have three champions for 2024. These include the bsb Collet himself, Chantené and Melissa as a three-time champion.

“ATC proves to be an outstanding club at all tournaments. We welcome anyone to join in the excitement of training in our dojangs,” Collett concluded.
