Samukelo Mhlonipheki Thubana, a netball player from Rethabiseng, Tshwane Region 7, is playing for the University of Johannesburg where he is a student.
He used to play for his home team, the Golden Eagles Netball Club.
Thubana and his team took part in the University Sports South Africa (USSA) championships from July 1 to 5 where they came second in the finals and were rewarded silver medals.
They lost against TUT in the finals 44-41.
David Mahlangu, head coach for the Golden Eagles, said: “As Samukelo’s coach, I am delighted that a player from our township club performed beyond expectations in the USSA Championship by receiving a second position. I am proud of him and congratulate him and the rest of his UJ teammates.
“I wish him more good performances and for him to continue to shine,” said Mahlangu.
