Operation Paseka yields arrest in Bethal

The court postponed the case to May 6.

The Bethal SAPS’ Operation Paseka saw the arrest of Vusi Selepe (43) in Bethal on March 27 for possession of unlicensed ammunition.

According to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the spokesperson for the police’s provincial commissioner, the arrest came after the police saw a silver/grey Toyota Run X without number plates on the N17 between Bethal and Ermelo and ordered the driver to stop.

The police searched the vehicle and found 51 empty cartridges and 11 rounds of live ammunition. The man was unable to provide a licence for the ammunition and was arrested.

He appeared in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court and was released on bail of R1 500. The case was postponed to May 6 for further investigation.

The provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, warned the community that the police would remain vigilant for any suspicious or criminal activities.
