Grobler bids farewell to Bethal Correctional Services

Erika Grobler retires from Bethal Correctional Services after nearly 34 years of sevice.

After serving almost 34 years at the Correctional Services, Erica Grobler, the former area coordinator for social reintegration, has hung up her brown uniform to take on retirement.

A farewell was held for Grobler at the Kopanong Hall at the Bethal Correctional Centre on March 25. The current head of Bethal Correctional Centre, Enock Chonco, regards Grobler’s retirement as a loss to the department.

He said Grobler was an asset that was forever ready to tackle any task assigned by the department.

“Over the years, she performed tasks as an initiator, investigator, chaplain, psychologist and employee assistance practitioner. She was once the head of Bethal Correctional Centre.”

Grobler’s colleagues regard her as a mother, mentor and shoulder to cry on and speak of her as a motivator, supporter and leader who could give them a space for creativity and allow them to speak their minds.

Dominic Zulu, area coordinator of development and care, referred to Grobler as his God-fearing sister and friend and commended her interacting skills as an attribution to her ability to touch the hearts and souls of all officials within the workplace.

“You have left a spirit of excellence, professionalism, love, peace and harmony in our midst.

“We appreciate that you were genuine by demonstrating that a leader influences by conduct, action and speech,” said Zulu.

Grobler expressed her gratitude to the department for granting her the opportunity to be part of the journey of serving the people.

“You have given me something priceless that money cannot buy. You gave me memories that will remain with me for the rest of my life. You are no longer my colleagues but my family.” said Grobler.

She said this journey was prepared by God and she gives Him all the glory.

“Community corrections will always be in my heart,” concluded Grobler.
