Prospective buyer survives head shot near Bronkhorstspruit

The man and his friend were robbed and assaulted when they thought they were buying a Bobcat machine in Winterveld.

A man survived a gunshot wound to the head last weekend. He reacted on February 24 to an advert on social media to buy a Bobcat Caterpillar in Winterveld.

The man and a friend received a pin drop where to meet with the seller, but upon arrival, they had to wait.
About 10 armed men approached them and demanded money.

According to the police, the buyers did not have cash with them. The victim began arguing with one robber, who then shot him in the head. He miraculously survived the shot.

Both buyers were taken into the bushes where the robbers searched them and took their cellphones and bank cards. The robbers demanded the bank card PIN codes.

They kept the two buyers hostage for several hours. The robbers eventually took the two men to their vehicle and instructed the uninjured man to take his friend, who was shot, to the hospital.

He could not find a hospital in the area and drove to Bronkhorstspruit Hospital. The hospital discharged the man with the gunshot the next day.

Colonel Maqhawe Simon Dhladhla warned the community to refrain from buying bargains on social media platforms, especially in the areas of Loate and Winterveld.

“Those who shop online ought to exercise caution and limit their purchases to reliable websites or apps.”

“The groups who specialise in these frauds entice social media users to make purchases via Facebook Marketplace, an e-commerce platform where products and services are on sale,” said Dhladhla.
