Secunda Regional Court sends rapist to life in jail

Mtsweni preyed on vulnerable woman and children walking alone and then raped them.

The Secunda Regional Court sentenced Thabo Mtsweni (33) to life imprisonment plus 45 years in jail for crimes ranging from raping a minor and another three women.

Mtsweni was also sentenced for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He committed these crimes in Leandra between 2009 and 2015.

Mtsweni preyed on vulnerable women and children walking alone in the streets.

The first victim, a minor, was on her way to school when Mtsweni grabbed and dragged her to the trees in an open field. He covered her face with a cloth and raped her.

Mtsweni did the same to three women.

The victims could not identify him, but DNA and fingerprints linked him to the crimes after he appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on burglary charges.

He was then taken to Secunda for trial until his sentencing.
