Organisation in eMbalenhle works at cleaning environment

“Our main focus is to clean dams and streams, remove illegal dumps and clean the air.”

The Organisation for Environmental Conservation in the Govan Mbeki Municipality is fighting illegal dumping in areas within the municipality.

The organisation started picking waste at Ext 12, eMbalenhle, on January 18 to alleviate and reduce pollution while creating employment and business opportunities for young people.

According to Opulent Jiyane, the organisation’s secretary, their main objective is to teach communities to care for their environment.

“Our primary focus is to clean dams and streams, remove illegal dumps and clean the air. As we are a youth-founded organisation, we will achieve these goals by working with stakeholders.

“It is not only the community that needs to play a role in taking care of the environment, but also companies. We also want to expand globally,” said Jiyane.

Jiyane said there are many opportunities in taking care of the environment.
