Young man from Ekangala referred to Weskoppies after father’s gruesome murder

The 59-year-old victim’s throat and chest were cut open, his genitals removed and placed in a mug, and his ears severed.

A 21-year-old man was referred to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital after the gruesome murder of his father in Ekangala.

Khulekani Mthimunye walked into the Ekangala Police Station to report that he had killed his father with a knife at about 02:30 at stand 4361, Section B, on October 8.

The police attending the scene found Charlie Mthimunye (59) butchered in the bedroom. He was naked and lying on the floor. His private parts had been severed and placed in a mug, and police found his severed ears on the floor.

According to police spokesman Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk, the son had slaughtered Charlie, cutting his throat and chest open down to his abdomen. A knife, the suspected murder weapon, was found beside the deceased.

When the murder happened, only the deceased and the suspect were in the house.

According to the family, Khulekani is mentally unstable. The motive is unknown.

The Ekangala Police arrested Khulekani, and he appeared in the Bronkhorstspruit Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody for further investigation.
