Whistleblowers assist police in murder investigation in Wakkerstroom

Police as well as paramedics were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, the victim was found in a pool of blood, not far from a local tavern.

The public in Wakkerstroom reportedly played a pivotal role in the arrest of 12 suspects.

According to a recent statement from the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, this follows a murder incident in which a 26-year-old man from EsiZameleni in Wakkerstroom possibly died from a stab wound in the early hours of October 1.

Police as well as paramedics were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, the victim was found in a pool of blood, not far from a local tavern.

He suffered from a stab wound to the upper body.

He was certified dead and a murder case was opened. Whistleblowers led police investigations to a house where 10 suspects were found.

Another suspect was reportedly found on the scene and another was found at his place of residence at Siyathuthuka in Wakkerstroom.

The suspects were arrested in about 90 minutes after the murder. Ten were reportedly found in possession of knives.

Police also discovered some items with blood stains and confiscated them for further investigation. According to the statement, the motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Volksrust District Court soon.

The provincial commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, strongly condemned the murder and commended community members for working in partnership with the police.
