Sasol honours organisations in Secunda and Standerton

Mashudu Ndou, Vice-President Community Affairs, said as corporate citizen, Sasol believes that skills development is an enabler for economic inclusion and growth.

Sasol recently hosted its recognition ceremony for 30 individuals from 10 NPOs in the Lekwa municipal area who participated in the Sasol Institution Capacity Building programme through the Siyakhula Trust.

Sasol’s vice-president for community affairs, Mashudu Ndou, said this programme had capacitated 96 NPOs in the Govan Mbeki municipal area and 10 in the Lekwa municipal area, focusing mainly on early childhood development (ECDs).

Sasol recognised 19 youngsters who completed vocational garment-making training.

The company also recognised 99 emerging farmers from the Gert Sibande District municipal area who recently completed the Sasol Farmers Development programme.

Ndou said over 400 farmers were trained in the Gert Sibande District municipal region from 2018 to March.

These youths from Sasol’s fence-line communities were also recognised for completing vocational training in garment making.

“It is when I get involved in social initiatives that empower, enable and recognise people that I have a sense of fulfilment that is immeasurable,” said Ndou.

“This is why I work for Sasol.”

Sasol believes skills development is an enabler for economic inclusion and growth.

“The complementary need for a skilled workforce around our operations and the needs of our local fence line communities for access to socio-economic opportunities, especially in the context of rising unemployment rates, continues to foster our passion to contribute to an enabling environment for lifelong skills that allows active participation in the economy.”

With another project, Sasol handed mattresses, blankets, and toys to five ECDs in Dipaleseng and the Govan Mbeki and Lekwa municipal areas.

They also handed landscaping equipment to a local NPO.
