Homeless Bheki keeps park in Cullinan clean

He is outspoken about drug addiction and wants to warn others about its dangers.

Bheki Malumo (34), a homeless man living in a park in Cullinan, keeps this park as neat as possible.

This rehabilitated drug addict suffers from a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and cleans up the park every day before he goes to bed and also as soon as he wakes up.

He is outspoken about drug addiction and wants to warn others about its dangers.

“I originally come from Rand Park Ridge in Randburg. I was still young when I was exposed to drugs by an older friend. I began to use it due to peer pressure.”

He lost everything in life, including his family.

“I had to suffer this loss before I finally realised how terrible drugs are.”

Maluma admitted to having used every form of drug except for Xanex. He used Cat, which eventually made his nose collapse.

The crystal meth he used for five years forced him to live on the streets. Maluma admits that he would have done anything to feed his habit.

He turned to God a year ago when he finally realised that drugs were destroying his life. He booked himself into the Randfontein Rehab to get help, where he spent three months getting clean.

“The scourge of drugs is getting worse. Something has to be done to stop the dealing of drugs,” Maluma said about the drug problem in South Africa.

“The drug problem has to be attacked at the source. The police have to stop drug lords selling drugs to people.”

Maluma arrived in Cullinan from Kagiso in July to reunite and reconcile with his family, but the family didn’t want anything to do with him.

He ended up living in a park in Cullinan, where he kept himself busy by cleaning it.

“Drugs will make a person do anything just to get that little bit of drugs to survive the day,” said Maluma.
