Mighty Panthers from Cullinan win gold

Region 5 took the spotlight with Mighty Panthers Male Netball team from Cullinan winning the Gold Medal in the Men's division.

The Mighty Panthers men’s netball team from Cullinan won the Gauteng men’s finals of the Twizza Tournament last weekend.

Netball development and growth continue to be at an all-time high within the City of Tshwane and within Tshwane Netball.

The finals took place in Pretoria. The team will soon head to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) for the national tournament.

The Twizza Tournament is aimed at grassroots development and showcases each district’s upcoming talent.

Councillor Johannes Bekker from Ward 100 is pleased with how netball is progressing in Region 5 and in Tshwane.

“Firstly, I have to thank the transformation from Tshwane Netball to the sport, their input and dedication are reaping results.”

Bekker believes the more Region 5 residents are exposed to the sport, the more it will grow and more people will also be supporting it.

“Sports is generally about uniting everybody. Netball is not just played by women, we need to get more involvement from men, whether as a player, an umpire or a coach.

“We need more men in the sport. We are not in competition with our sisters, it’s just about getting a system into place that includes everybody,” said Bekker.
