Ekangala Police recover railway tracks worth R1 million

They then conducted a search and recovered the said railway tracks with an estimated value of R1 million and managed to arrested two male suspects.

Ekangala Police arrested two men in connection with the theft of railway tracks worth R1 million on Wednesday, November 16.

The police received information about a truck loading railway lines at Ekandustria.

Members followed up on the information early that morning and, in conjunction with a local security company, stopped the truck.

The heavy vehicle was searched and the railway tracks were recovered. The suspects were also arrested.

At the time of going to print, it was confirmed that the two suspects would be appearing before the Ekangala Magistrate’s Court facing charges of damage to essential infrastructure, possession of suspected stolen property and contravention of the Immigration Act.

Ekangala acting station commander, Captain Moses Masondo, applauded Sergeant Kgotsoka and Constable Matsimela, as well as the local security for their passion and dedication and for the role that they played in the successful arrest and recovery of the stolen railway tracks.
