Standerton Crime Intelligence Unit arrest three for drug possession

Provincial Commissioner will continue to fight against crime in Mpumalanga.

The local Crime Intelligence Unit and the Crime Prevention Unit arrested three suspects for the possession of drugs on Tuesday, October 18.

The suspects are aged between 22 and 34 and were arrested in separate incidents at around 05:30.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, provincial police spokesman, said the Crime Intelligence Unit worked on information they received and analysed the suspects’ movements before sharing their findings with the Crime Prevention Unit.

A 22-year-old man was arrested with 21g of Nyaope in his possession and this operation further led to the arrests of a 34-year-old man with 1 017 Mandrax tablets weighing 1 435g in his possession and a 25-year-old man with 52g of Nyaope in his possession, stashed in a hundred plastic bags.

All three suspects appeared in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, October 19 and the seized drugs were taken to forensics for further investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Mpumalanga, Lt-Gen. Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, appreciated the arrests made and promised to intensify the fight against drugs in Mpumalanga.
