Highway patrol cops save hijacking victim on the N12 near Delmas

On the back seat of the said Polo they found a male (37) injured and bleeding from his face. The victim’s hands and feet were tied with rope.

Members of the Middelburg Highway Patrol saved a hijacking victim on the N12 near Delmas on October 14.

They were patrolling the N12, driving in the direction of the Delmas, when a silver VW Polo with Mpumalanga number plates caught their attention.

It appeared that there was a struggle inside the vehicle. The members twice tried to pull over the Polo towards the Argent / Dwarsfontein off-ramp, but the driver sped off.

As the Polo approached the R42 Bronkhorstspruit / Delmas on-ramp, the driver immediately swerved in front of a truck, took a sudden turn and then stopped.

Three men jumped from the car and fled into the Botleng RDP houses at the side of the N12.

The members of Middelburg Highway Patrol found a man, bleeding from his face, on the back seat of the Polo. His hands and feet were tied with rope.

An ambulance was called and the injured 37-year-old was taken to the hospital.

His name is known to Streeknuus, but he wishes to stay anonymous. A case of hijacking and kidnapping was opened at the Delmas Police Station.

According to a media statement released by Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, media spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Police, the police are searching for the suspects.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has commended the Middelburg Highway Patrol for their vigilance that resulted in rescuing the victim and also prevented suspects from harming him further.
