Delmas Police and community arrest 7 suspects

The Delmas Police recovered five firearms, 10 cell phones, three vehicles, a generator and two diesel pumps.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Mpumalanga, Lieut-Gen Semakaleng Manamela, has applauded the Delmas Police.

This follows the successful arrest of seven suspects aged between 21 and 42 on Wednesday, June 8.

The suspects were arrested on various charges, including business robbery, armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of suspected stolen vehicles and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police were alerted about a business robbery, which had taken place at Lefa Mine near Belfast, and that suspects had fled in two vehicles, a Mahindra light delivery vehicle and a Toyota Hilux Double Cab.

The police swiftly responded and also called for backup from Bronkhorstspruit and Benoni K9 Units.

They were also joined by the Sundra Bulldogs neighbourhood watch as well as the AfriForum Argent Farm Watch and together, pursued the suspects who allegedly headed towards Delmas.

Four suspects allegedly abandoned the Toyota Hilux Double Cab and fled into the bushes.

The committed members, together with the neighbourhood watch group vigorously searched for them until they managed to arrest three and confiscated three firearms.

The members then received information that a gold Toyota Quantum collected the fourth suspect, which they pursued and later spotted it on the R42 towards Delmas and arrested two more suspects.

The police investigated further and gathered information that led them to a house in Botleng, Delmas where an additional two suspects were arrested.

The Police recovered a five firearms, 10 cell phones, three vehicles (a Mahindra LDV, Toyota Hilux Double Cab and a Toyota Quantum), a generator and two diesel pumps.

Police cannot rule out the possibility of linking these suspects to other cases.

The seven suspects are expected to appear at the Delmas District Magistrate’s Court today, June 10.
