Athletes go all out in Goldi-marathon in Standerton

An estimated 720 athletes participated and the finishing point was on the rugby field.

The Goldi 4-in-1 Marathon took place on Monday, March 21 where athletes had a choice of competing in the 42,2km, 21,1km, 10km or fun run.

Standerton Marathon Club organised the event and athletes were out of the blocks at Hoërskool Standerton at 6:00.

An estimated 720 athletes participated and the finishing point was on the rugby field.

The SAVF in Standerton joined the preparations, with a team of the crisis centre assisting in offloading water boxes before the race.

They facilitated on race day in marshalling and cleaning.

Northern Light Foundation hosted the fun run with more than 100 participants lining up.

“Standerton Marathon Club would like to thank the community for their support,” Manus Mentz, club chairman, said.

“Water points are of the utmost importance and several businesses helped to make the event a success.”

Mentz thanked staff from Maximed, Vodacom, Phakisa, Meadows, Goldi, Case, Nissan, Standard Bank Toyota, McDonald’s, as well as Standerton Trapklub for their assistance in taking up positions on the course.
