EFF marches to municipal offices in Secunda for service delivery

EFF wants know how the mayor is going to deal with roads that are full of potholes and the incomplete Leandra Stadium.

Hundreds of members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) marched to the offices of the Govan Mbeki Municipality last Wednesday to hand over a memorandum regarding service delivery issues.

The march was led by the party’s provincial and national leadership.

The memorandum was handed over to the executive mayor, Mr Nhlakanipho Zuma.

The EFF demanded that the mayor replies to the issues in the memorandum within seven days.

Some of their grievances include the unending load-shedding in many parts of the municipal areas, including Bethal, eMzinoni and eMbalenhle.

Neglected sewage spills, especially in different townships such as eMbalenhle, are also part of the issues in the memorandum.

Residents have reported this to Human Rights Commission.

The EFF wanted to know when the commission’s recommendations will be implemented.

The EFF also said the electricity problem in Bethal and eMzinoni has worsened. They want to know when the municipality will attend to this ongoing problem.

Another issue is the lack of waste removal.

They asked the mayor who will deal with potholes in the roads, and the incomplete Leandra Stadium.

The party also raised the issue of the billing system, because they believe that consumers are wrongly billed for services.

They said it is clear that the municipality does not use it’s finances correctly, if the disclaimer audit opinion from the Auditor General is taken into account.

They also demanded transparency in the recruitment processes.

Mr Zuma promised to respond within seven days, but commented that the EFF councillors were supposed to be standing with him to receive the memorandum.
