Two friends from Standerton share same aspirations

Both want to become doctors one day, go to the same school and UCT is their chosen destination, once Grade 12 is completed..

Two friends like the same shade of lipstick and sometimes dress in shades of the colour and face each other weekly on the tennis court.

Lindiwe Mnguni and Boledi Magolela are regulars at the Standerton Tennis Club to be coached under the watchful eye of Mr Mathew Khumalo.

Boledi has been working at her tennis game for the past six years.

“I spent the first three years without Mathew’s training,” she said.

The customary warm-ups before practice with the cones on the court are adhered to on Fridays and Saturdays.

Players have to practice running between the cones five times, at their fastest pace.

“I then concentrated on my forehand, serve and backhand,” Boledi added.

“It is just a game.”

She enjoys tennis especially because you have to depend on yourself.

Lindiwe has been playing tennis for the past two years and mother Thabile plays chauffeur since ballet lessons are also part of her daughter’s regimen.

“Tennis teaches one discipline and it is good exercise,” Lindiwe said.

“The ballet helps with balance and suppleness.”
