An alleged serial rapist applied for bail in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, June 17.
This 35-year-old man allegedly targeted young women who were hitchhiking in different towns around Govan Mbeki Municipality.
It is alleged that his first victim was hitchhiking from Evander to eMbalenhle in February this year when he stopped with his car and offered her a lift.
He told her that he was going to eMbalenhle, but after she climbed into the car, she saw they were taking the Secunda-route.
He turned the car into to a nearby veld along the way and rape her inside the car.
Another two women from Leandra and Kinross were raped in March by the the same man using the same tactics.
These women were also raped on different days and time but both were taken to the veld where he raped them in his car.
Last month, a woman reported a similar same incident to the police and the man was traced and apprehended.
The suspect was allegedly using a maroon Toyota Corolla when committing these crimes.
The man is charged with four counts of rape and four of kidnapping.
According to the police, the victims have been travelling along the R50, N17, R39 and R546 roads.
Police are also requesting all victims of the alleged rapist to go to their nearest police station and open cases.
It is alleged that the suspect is a teacher at a primary school at eMbalenhle.
The suspect was dumped by his attorney while waiting to hear about his application and is waiting to get a new representative this week when he re-appears before the court.
His bail application was postponed until he gets a new attorney to represent him.
