Health workers get vaccinated at Evander Hospital

First vaccination dosages arrive in area.

EVANDER – The first dosages of vaccines against the Covid-19 virus arrived at Evander Hospital last week.

Health workers and frontline workers had the first chance to be vaccinated.

Doctors, chief executive officers (CEOs) and other health workers of Evander Hospital, Bethal Hospital and Mediclinic Highveld, as well as front line workers of Sasol’s medical centre, received their vaccines on Tuesday, 30 March at Evander Hospital.

By the time the CEOs visited the station to receive their vaccinations, 30 health workers had already received theirs.

Ms Madala Ndhlovu, CEO of Evander Hospital, said this hospital will be operational as a vaccination site under the protocol for the sub-district.

They received about 700 dosages of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines. “All those with valid voucher codes will be welcomed as per the booking schedule,” said Ms Ndhlovu.

She urged all medical practices to keep on forwarding their institution or practice numbers for their staff members to be vaccinated.

The successful roll out with all the stakeholders was phase 1 of the vaccination process.

Ms Ndhlovu said only health workers will be vaccinated for now and they will inform the community when they can receive vaccinations.

The front line workers who received their vaccinations against Covid-19 on Tuesday, 30 March are Mr Heinrich Liebenberg (CEO of Mediclinic Highveld), Ms Madala Ndhlovu (CEO of Evander Hospital) and Messrs Pappie Mzizi (Sasol medical centre) and Mandla Mthembu-Kamabuza (CEO of Bethal Hospital).
